RRL Low Straight One-Wash Selvedge Denim: First Wash Review, Measurements & Fit Restoration Data

Hello, this is Lislab . For any denim enthusiast, there is always a quiet thrill in breaking in and caring for a favorite pair of jeans. Today, I’d like to share the first wash process, before-and-after measurement data, and subsequent wear updates for my RRL Low Straight One-Wash Selvedge Denim —a pair I’ve been documenting right here on my blog. Generally, one-wash, sanforized denim carries little stress when it comes to washing. However, as wears accumulate, proper timing becomes essential to reset the fabric’s tension and restore the silhouette from inevitable wear-stretching. Rather than aiming for drastic shrinkage or rapid fading, this first wash was focused entirely on tidying up the stretched waist, knees, and rear seat area. While some time has passed since the actual washing took place, I’ve included both the immediate post-wash data and the real-world evolution observed after putting another 40+ wears on them since.

[Review] A.P.C. x JJJJound Petit Standard Selvedge Raw Denim: Minimalist French & Canadian Collaboration

Hello, this is Lislab.

When you think of A.P.C., the benchmark of clean French casual wear, it’s impossible not to bring up their iconic raw denim—defined by its deep indigo shade and understated silhouette. So when A.P.C., with its worldwide cult following, teamed up with JJJJound, the Montreal-based design studio known for modern minimalism, anticipation across the fashion scene was huge.

Both brands share a commitment to clean, distraction-free design and purpose-driven aesthetics. Beyond simple logo-driven merch, this collaboration represents raw denim in its most refined and sophisticated form.

Today, I’m taking a closer look at the A.P.C. x JJJJound Petit Standard Selvedge Raw Denim, which brings JJJJound’s signature touch to A.P.C.’s classic slim straight fit.

Originally, this collaboration model comes with a custom JJJJound leather patch stitched above the back pocket. I purchased this piece as brand-new via a second-hand deal from a seller who sized wrong. The seller had manually removed the patch prior to selling, explaining that the original stitching was relatively loose and looked cleaner off.

At first, losing the iconic collaboration leather patch felt like a slight drawback. But considering I planned to wear these hard as daily beaters—and looking at the delicate stitching where it was attached—it likely would have loosened over time with wear and washing anyway. I decided to view it positively: enjoying the clean, unbranded purity of original A.P.C. denim (with a nice discount as a bonus).

Aside from the patch, the most notable difference from the inline Petit Standard is the switch from a traditional button fly to a zipper fly. The subtle addition of JJJJound’s signature pin on the belt loop adds a tasteful touch to the collab.

<A.P.C. Petit Standard Size Chart>
lislab-apc-jjjjound-petit-standard-selvedge-raw-denim-official-size-measurement-chart
* This data is a recompiled average by Lislab, based on A.P.C. official guides and measurement data from global premium denim retailers. Please note that denim may have slight individual variations; use these figures as a reference point for your size selection.

Compared to the Petit New Standard (slim tapered) I reviewed previously, the Petit Standard features a slightly lower rise and a straight line down through the hem. The 14.5oz fabric is sanforized, so you won't need to worry about dramatic post-wash shrinkage.

However, based on my years of breaking in A.P.C. raw denim, these jeans stretch significantly around the waist and hips through regular wear, far more than they shrink in the wash. Even if the waist feels snug initially, the fabric will relax and mold naturally to your body over time.

* CRITICAL TIP! – A.P.C. raw denim stretches more than most people expect. If you size up out of fear that the initial fit is too tight, the waist will eventually stretch out to the point where the jeans sag or slip down. I strongly recommend staying True to Size (TTS) or sizing down by 1.

03. Measurements & In-Depth Feel

"The Clean Line of a Slim Straight Silhouette"

Here are the actual measurements I took firsthand:

  • Waist: 40cm > 41.5 cm (1.5cm increase)

  • Front Rise: 25.4 cm > ~25 cm (No Change)

My measured pair ran slightly roomier in the waist compared to the official chart. Because the rise is relatively low and the thigh stays slim, if you have a more athletic lower body or prefer a roomier fit, be sure to cross-check both thigh and waist measurements before buying.

While the Petit New Standard tapers down toward the ankle, the Petit Standard drops straight down in a clean vertical line, delivering a sharp, timeless look. It creates a sleek, leg-lengthening balance without feeling overly tight.

The zipper fly provides great everyday convenience.

Without the belt loop pin attached, it looks almost identical to standard inline A.P.C. denim—and that unpretentious versatility is exactly why it remains an indispensable wardrobe classic.

Closing: Raw Denim in Its Purest Form

The A.P.C. x JJJJound Petit Standard doesn't rely on flashy graphics or heavy artificial washes—it lets the stiff fabric texture and refined silhouette speak for themselves.

Having added the Petit Standard (slim straight) to my collection after being thoroughly satisfied with the Petit New Standard (slim tapered), my first reaction was immediate appreciation for that signature rigid, crisp A.P.C. raw denim feel. It requires a bit of break-in time at first, but watching the creases and honeycombs develop according to your daily movement is half the fun.

The subtle sheen on the surface and the deep, slightly purple-tinted indigo hue prove why A.P.C. raw denim remains a recommended benchmark for beginners and denim enthusiasts alike. If the Petit New Standard felt too tapered or tight around the calves, this classic slim straight is an ideal alternative.

I look forward to sharing long-term fading updates as these age alongside my daily routine.

Thank you for reading this long journey.

Sincerely, Lislab
