Hello, this is Lislab.

For those who love denim and deeply explore heritage culture, there is a brand that is always called the "final destination" and the "ultimate dream." It is none other than Double RL (RRL), the pinnacle of American vintage archives by Polo Ralph Lauren.

While LVC focuses entirely on meticulously reproducing the glorious golden era of Levi's, RRL is a brand that perfectly blends the rugged, raw aesthetic of the American West with the refined silhouette of modern reproduction denim, all based on founder Ralph Lauren's obsessive vintage philosophy.

Today, I will begin a fit review of 'Low Straight,' the best-seller among RRL's extensive denim lineup, known for being the most accessible while boasting a heavy, straight aesthetic within a slim profile.

01. On-Body Fit & Silhouette

Having experienced various high-end denim brands, I also recently acquired the RRL Low Straight after yearning for a more authentic and heavy American heritage style. In RRL's 'Low Straight,' 'Low' signifies a lower rise, while 'Straight' refers to a slim straight silhouette that drops straight down from the thigh to the hem.

When I first put these jeans on, my immediate thought was, "Uh oh... these are way stiffer and tighter than I expected." The Low Straight is incredibly difficult to find in the secondhand market, and since I bought them through a private transaction, exchange or refund was out of the question.

Unlike A.P.C. denim, which is notorious for stretching out quite easily, the rigidness of this heavy 16oz fabric wrapped tightly and heavily around my body. At first, I was deeply worried that it wouldn't be broken in as easily as A.P.C.

However, after wearing them for about 2 months and logging over 30 wears, the rigid fabric has molded to my hip lines and movements, gradually forming a beautiful shape and silhouette. Unlike the light impression given by a slim tapered fit, RRL's slim straight emits a unique aura that firmly holds the lower body in a heavy, straight line.

02. Hemming & Styling Points

Since the RRL Low Straight One-Wash model comes pre-shrunk from the factory, the inseam length is not overwhelmingly long.

I decided not to do any alterations. Instead, I let the hem naturally stack over the shoes for a heavily stacked styling, or sometimes roll them up once to slightly expose the ankles. I am highly satisfied with this versatile length.

* Hemming Tip: RRL Low Straight finished with a Chain Stitch. To preserve the unique roping effect and twisting characteristic of vintage denim, I highly recommend using a professional shop capable of chain stitching rather than a standard single-stitch repair.

To achieve sharp and well-defined fades that perfectly fit my body, I boldly chose my true size (30), enduring the initial tightness just like I did with A.P.C. In terms of the overall silhouette, my satisfaction is the highest among all the slim-fit denims I own.

The biggest advantage when styling these jeans is their versatility. Unlike tapered fits that narrow down at the hem, this is a straight fit that stretches straight down. Thanks to the rugged straight lines hidden within the slim profile, the silhouette balances beautifully whether paired with light sneakers, bulky running shoes, or rugged work boots like Red Wings.

03. A Continuum of Records

The true value of this model lies in its 'aging,' which honestly reflects the owner's life as time passes. The suede leather patch, various intricate details, and the signature back pocket stitching radiating through the deep, rich indigo fabric exert a heavy presence even when just hanging in the wardrobe.

Since the wear duration and wear count aren't excessively long yet, there are no dramatic changes. However, the whiskers on the front lap and the honeycombs behind the knees are steadily setting into place.

Feeling the reassurance of the heavy fabric protecting my legs, I am drawing the blueprints for an honest and authentic fade day by day.

I am already excited and looking forward to the transformation of this heavy piece, which will slowly mature according to my own stride and lifestyle habits—a natural fade that artificial washing can never replicate.

Closing: From the Stiffest Dark Blue to the Softest Sky Blue

At first, you might feel uncomfortable due to the rigid fabric and the pressure of the short rise.

However, months later, when you face the one-and-only fades shaped by your daily habits and movements, along with the suede leather patch beautifully aged by time, you will fully understand why denim heads worldwide praise RRL as the pinnacle of the denim archive.

Especially if you have a slim build like me, it is rare to find a pair of jeans that delivers such a flawless silhouette and overwhelming quality simultaneously. For those who want to capture their present time and memories in a heavy vessel, I highly recommend the RRL Low Straight.

Alongside the A.P.C. Petit New Standard, I will continuously update and share the fading log of this pair as it captures my time and memories.

Thank you for reading this long journey.

Sincerely, Lislab
