[Review] PBJ (Pure Blue Japan) XX-011 3-Years Selvedge Denim: Shaped by Time

Hello, this is  Lislab . While many brands are hailed as the pride of Japanese denim, PBJ(Pure Blue Japan) stands in a league of its own, solely due to its unparalleled fabric texture. Renowned for its signature "slubby" and rugged feel, PBJ is famous for maintaining this unique texture while employing distinctive construction methods that set it apart from standard denim. Today, I’m introducing the PBJ XX-011 , a model that utilizes Left-hand Twill(LHT) to offer both unique fading characteristics and a surprisingly comfortable fit. Let’s dive into the detailed data of how PBJ’s "blue obsession" has evolved after spending over three years with me. [Review] Momotaro Jeans 3105SP Type III Selvedge Denim Jacket: The Journey of Breaking in My Own Armor

Hello, this is Lislab.

In the world of denim enthusiasts, there is a brand often hailed as the "Pride of Okayama"—Momotaro Jeans.

Following its steadfast philosophy, Momotaro is renowned for its deep indigo dyeing and use of Zimbabwe cotton, achieving a perfect balance between comfort and durability. This deep indigo creates a sharp, high-contrast fade against the white cotton core as it ages, resulting in a one-of-a-kind wash unique to the wearer.

While there are many heritage brands focusing on Levi's reproductions, those who want to experience the extremes of fabric and dyeing—infused with a unique identity and philosophy—eventually find their way to Momotaro.

Today, I’m introducing the 3105SP Type III Denim Jacket, which has a fandom as strong as their denim pants. Let’s dive into the unique charm of denim uppers and the "painful" yet rewarding journey of breaking them in.

When I first encountered this jacket, the only word that came to mind was "Armor." The 15.7oz weight feels substantial, and the "Tokunou" (extra dark) indigo is so deep it can almost be mistaken for black.

Inside, however, you'll find Momotaro's signature humor—the pink selvedge line and the deerskin patch.

The iconic white stripes on the left arm act as a perfect visual accent to the otherwise rugged and dark denim.

Denim jackets have evolved through Type I, II, and III. While Types I and II offer a boxy, cropped, classic vintage look, the Type III features a slightly tapered waist and a longer body, making it ideal for modern styling. The two chest pockets and the "V" seams are the hallmark features of this silhouette.

Currently, it is almost impossible to find this original model in South Korea. Due to the brand's recent rebranding, this specific version—especially in the "Golden Size" 40—is a rare gem even in Japan. Fortunately, my brother brought this as a wedding gift from his trip to Tokyo, and I’m honored to add it to my archive.

Detailed sizing data for this product is scarce globally, so I measured it myself to provide a guide.

lislab-momotaro-3105sp-denim-jacket-size-guide-length-measurement

I usually wear a size Large. I chose Size 40 to allow for layering with hoodies or cardigans.

Since the Type III has very structured shoulders, sizing up is the secret to maintaining a clean silhouette while layering.

My brother, who is taller and larger than me, personally tried it on at the Tokyo store to ensure it would be the perfect fit for my frame.

03. Aging Data & Fit

"The Patience Required to Overcome Discomfort"

Even with the legendary softness of Zimbabwe cotton, a denim jacket feels much stiffer and more uncomfortable than denim pants. This is because the upper body requires more frequent and delicate movements than the legs. Furthermore, the range of motion is narrower, making the honeycomb (arm crease) fading process significantly slower.

lislab-momotaro-3105sp-denim-jacket-styling-hoodie-layered-back

I’ve owned it for 3 years and worn it about 20 times, but it still feels "brand new." However, seeing the creases slowly setting in around the elbows gives me hope for the high-contrast white fades to come.

This stiffness is what holds the creases in place; the more you endure it, the sharper the fades will be.

Closing: If You Want to Create Your Own Jacket

A denim jacket is more than just fashion or protection against the cold; it’s an archive that records the seasons and the owner’s persistence. I enjoy the tension of a new garment, but I’m even more excited for how the indigo will mature and settle into my body shape years from now.

If you’re tired of fleeting trends, I highly recommend a high-quality denim jacket. It offers a sense of "growth" alongside the wearer that no luxury brand can replicate. I’ll continue to record and share how this piece evolves through my daily life.
Thank you for reading this long journey.

Sincerely, Lislab
