Hello, this is Lislab.
Naked & Famous (N&F), often recommended as an entry-level selvedge brand, differs from typical heritage reproduction brands. Their experimental spirit in Canada keeps us constantly entertained. What’s fascinating about N&F is their bold planning in North America, while strictly sticking to premium, high-quality Japanese fabrics. It is a unique fusion of practical Western design and Japanese craftsmanship.
I still vividly remember searching for information to start my selvedge journey. Between the most recommended brands, A.P.C. and N&F, I chose N&F because of its reputation for having a more relaxed fit and a unique vibe. Today, I’m introducing their bestseller, which possesses both mainstream and "maniac" appeal: the 'Dirty Fade' Weird Guy.

01. Product Details
"When 'Dirt' Becomes Magic"
- Fit: Slim Tapered / Weird Guy – Plenty of room in the rise and thighs, tapering down to a manageable leg opening.
- Condition: 6 months of wear / 3-4 washes
- Features: Modern aesthetics combined with a uniquely experimental and bold mood
- 14.5oz Sanforized & Raw (No-Wash)
- Indigo-dyed warp with a beige/brown-dyed core. As it fades, it reveals a dusty, vintage "dirty" look
- Iconic "Nude Girl" heavy leather patch, "Dual-Line" red selvedge ID, and vintage silver rivets
Unlike heritage repros that focus on "replicating the past," N&F places modern silhouettes and fabric experimentation on top of premium Japanese textiles. The feel is slightly heavy, yet the 'Dirty Fade' provides a beautifully toned-down aesthetic. The thick leather patch and the unique selvedge line express the brand's bold identity without hesitation.
The true identity of this model is its "Dirty Fading." While standard denim fades to white, this pair has a beige/brown core, meaning that as it ages, a vintage, earthy yellowish hue emerges. The branded silver rivets and buttons harmonize perfectly with this mood.
02. Sizing
"Balance Between a Relaxed Waist and Slim Hem"
<Naked & Famous Weird Guy Size Chart>
* This data is a recompiled average by Lislab, based on Naked & Famous official guides and measurement data from global premium denim retailers. Please note that raw denim may have slight individual variations; use these figures as a reference point for your size selection.
Since N&F is Sanforized & Raw (No-Wash), it doesn't experience the massive shrinkage found in Unsanforized (Shrink-to-Fit) denim. As shown in the size chart, the brand's waist measurements usually run about 0.5 to 1 inch larger than others.
Back then, due to a lack of detailed measurements, I followed the "bigger is better" rule and went one size up (31). Currently, even after several washes and minor shrinkage, the waist feels a bit loose. If I were to buy it again now, I’d choose my true size (30), but I have no regrets. It's better than not being able to wear it after gaining weight!
- For a fitted silhouette: Go True to Size (TTS), accounting for the waist stretching.
- For a relaxed, comfortable mood: Go 1 Size Up.
03. Aging Data
"The Beauty of Slubby Textures"
6 months of wear / 3-4 washes:
- Waist: 42cm > 40.5cm (1.5cm decrease)
- Front Rise: 29.5cm > 27.5-28cm (1.5-2cm decrease)
Even though it’s Sanforized, I observed about 1 to 1.5cm of shrinkage. This is a natural process where the fabric settles and increases in density. I recommend considering this when choosing your size. Despite the shrinkage, the fit remains comfortable and not restrictive.
The Weird Guy fit has a relatively deep rise, offering great mobility. It sits stably on the waist rather than hanging on the hips, reducing fatigue during long hours of wear.
Some might ask, "Why is the fading so minimal for your first selvedge?" While I have a deep affection for this pair, I fell into the "denim trap" and started buying other models consecutively. Currently, it shows a 'Toned-down Beige White' rather than a bright yellow, but I am excited for the true yellowish-brown hue to emerge as the indigo thins. I will record the results again once it ripens further.
Closing: Creating My Own Unique Vintage Archive
At first, it might look like ordinary indigo denim. But months later, when the beige fading emerges from the knees and whiskers, you'll understand why it's called 'Dirty Fade.'
N&F Dirty Fade is the best choice for those who want to capture both 'Value' and 'Uniqueness.' The fusion of Canadian experimentalism and high-quality Japanese fabric is a sufficient reason to add N&F to your wardrobe. The Weird Guy fit offers flexibility for various body types thanks to its generous rise and thighs.
Thank you for reading this long journey.
Sincerely, Lislab
