While many reproduction brands focus on recreating the past, Naked & Famous(N&F), a Canadian brand, brings a different kind of excitement with its bold and experimental approach to fabrics.

Today, I’m sharing the "on-feet" wear records of the 'Dirty Fade' Weird Guy, a bestseller from Naked & Famous that is highly recommended as an entry-level raw or selvedge denim.

01. On-Body Fit & Silhouette



Naked & Famous was the model I chose after much deliberation between it and A.P.C. for my first-ever selvedge denim. I was drawn to its more relaxed fit and the unique nature of the fabric compared to the cleaner look of A.P.C.

In the name Naked & Famous Dirty Fade Weird Guy, 'Dirty Fade' refers to the specific property of the fabric, while 'Weird Guy' represents the silhouette of the fit.





The 'Weird Guy' is a slim tapered silhouette that offers room in the rise and thighs while narrowing down comfortably toward the hem. Thanks to the appropriately deep rise, it sits securely around the waist rather than the hips. Despite the slightly heavy fabric, this makes it highly active and comfortable for long hours of wear.



02. Hemming & Styling Points



Brand new Naked & Famous Dirty Fade Weird Guy jeans are incredibly, incredibly long. They were longer than any other reproduction denim I have ever experienced.

At the time, as a beginner with little information about denim, I was shocked by the overwhelming length and immediately had them hemmed at a local department store tailor. The original chain stitch hem was turned into a single stitch, which I still regret today.

However, I’ve decided to view it positively as a "scarf" from my early days of learning. Stitching aside, the length now rests perfectly on the heel while slightly brushing the top of my foot, which I find very satisfying.



* Hemming Tip: N&F Dirty Fade Weird Guy finished with a Chain Stitch. To preserve the unique roping effect and twisting characteristic of vintage denim, I highly recommend using a professional shop capable of chain stitching rather than a standard single-stitch repair.



Compared to other denims, the Dirty Fade is characterized by a neat and deep indigo color. Even though it is a tapered fit, it creates a solid silhouette that feels closer to a straight fit when worn.

It balances beautifully with lightweight sneakers as well as chunky athletic shoes. A slight roll-up to reveal the signature 'double' red-line selvedge stitch is the key styling point.



03. A Continuum of Records





The true value of this model lies in its name: 'Dirty Fade.' While typical denim reveals a white core as it fades, this fabric’s core yarns are dyed in beige/brown tones. As the fading progresses, a vintage, yellowish "dusty" hue emerges.







Although I’ve owned them for a while, there hasn't been a dramatic change yet because my actual wear time hasn't been extensive. However, a subtle, toned-down beige-white is beginning to peek through the deep indigo, making me very curious about its future look. This color, which develops solely based on my movements, captures the raw charm of Naked & Famous in a way that artificial washing never could.
