[Review] PBJ (Pure Blue Japan) XX-011 3-Years Selvedge Denim: Shaped by Time

Hello, this is  Lislab . While many brands are hailed as the pride of Japanese denim, PBJ(Pure Blue Japan) stands in a league of its own, solely due to its unparalleled fabric texture. Renowned for its signature "slubby" and rugged feel, PBJ is famous for maintaining this unique texture while employing distinctive construction methods that set it apart from standard denim. Today, I’m introducing the PBJ XX-011 , a model that utilizes Left-hand Twill(LHT) to offer both unique fading characteristics and a surprisingly comfortable fit. Let’s dive into the detailed data of how PBJ’s "blue obsession" has evolved after spending over three years with me. [Style] Momotaro Jeans 0605 3-Year: The Perfect Balance of Durability and Comfort

Hello, this is Lislab.

Momotaro Jeans is a brand defined by its uncompromising philosophy, using deep indigo dyeing and Zimbabwe cotton to achieve a rare harmony between comfort and durability. I still vividly remember the powerful first impression this pair gave me three years ago. The signature indigo was so dark it could almost be mistaken for black, and the natural tapered fit combined with a surprisingly comfortable feel—despite the heavy fabric—integrated perfectly into my daily life.

From the stiff, rigid tension of our first meeting to the clear blue "medal of honor" it wears today, here is my long-term review of the Momotaro Jeans 0605, my most trusted "daily driver."

01. On-Body Fit & Silhouette

I remember when I first got the 0605. The 15.7oz heavyweight denim provided an overwhelming sense of density, and the deep, near-black indigo made me think, "This won't be easy to break in." However, the inherent flexibility of Zimbabwe cotton offered a surprising reversal in comfort.

Now, nearly three years later—having worn them "battle ready" with monthly washes and even the occasional tumble dry—the fabric has compressed further. It has become a one-of-a-kind pair of jeans that perfectly remembers the contours of my body.

The Momotaro 0605 features a Natural Tapered fit, which is roomy in the thighs and narrows down subtly toward the hem. For someone like me with slim legs, it provides a silhouette that is slightly relaxed yet sophisticated, making it the pair I reach for most often, regardless of the outfit.

Adding to this is the iconic 'Going to Battle' (GTB) signature stripes on the back pocket, which add a distinct presence to what could otherwise be a plain pair of denim. These white lines, flashing with every step, complement the modern tapered silhouette and complete a detail-oriented look with a clear point of focus.

02. Hemming & Styling Points

Like most raw denim, the Momotaro 0605 comes with a very long inseam. For the first 3 to 4 months, I wore them with a heavy double cuff without hemming, allowing them to undergo "final shrinkage" through initial wears and washes before making any permanent changes.

Currently, they are hemmed to fall perfectly at the heel, lightly covering the instep. This allows for a clean silhouette and natural styling, whether cuffed or uncuffed.

* Hemming Tip: The 0605 is finished with a Chain Stitch. To preserve the unique roping effect and twisting characteristic of vintage denim, I highly recommend using a professional shop capable of chain stitching rather than a standard single-stitch repair.

Due to the nature of the Natural Tapered fit, the leg opening is not extremely narrow, allowing for a wide range of pairings from light sneakers to athletic shoes. For a breezy look with low-top sneakers, I prefer a single short cuff to reveal the ankle and the signature 'Pink Selvedge' line—a subtle but sharp styling point.

03. A Continuum of Records

The true value of Momotaro 0605 reveals itself through the passage of time. Because they use the world's deepest indigo dye, the fading process is notoriously slow. However, the various fading elements created by my own body's movements are a personal record that no artificial distressing could ever replicate.

The pale peach-colored leather patch has darkened into a rich brown; the GTB stripes have begun to peel and weather; and the near-black indigo has transitioned into a clear, vibrant blue. Every one of these moments is evidence of the three years I've spent "battling" through my daily life in these jeans.

Closing: From the Stiffest Dark Blue to the Softest Sky Blue

To me, the Momotaro 0605 is not just a pair of jeans; it is an item defined by the word 'Trust.' It feels like a reliable partner that protects me in any environment while offering a cozy, broken-in familiarity the more I wear it.

Jeans that coexist as both "tough" and "comfortable" are rare. For those who prefer a silhouette that isn't too tight but remains sharp, the 0605 Natural Tapered fit is the perfect answer.

I sincerely hope you also experience the joy of building your own heritage—not through fast fashion that is quickly discarded, but through a long-term bond with an item over many years.

Thank you for reading this long journey.

Sincerely, Lislab
