Our very first topic is a collaboration that will make any Converse enthusiast's heart beat faster.

It is the 'BEAMS x Converse Japan All Star J Model', released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of BEAMS' founding.





01. Understanding Converse Japan

Before we dive into the product, I’d like to briefly and clearly explain 'Converse Japan', which often confuses many people.

The Converse shoes we usually see in standard retail stores belong to the 'Global Converse Line' under Nike in the United States. On the other hand, 'Converse Japan' is a completely independent Japanese corporate entity, totally separate from Nike's global trademark rights.

When Converse US faced bankruptcy in the 1990s, Itochu Corporation of Japan acquired the domestic trademark rights in Japan and forged its own distinct path. Because of these trademark boundaries, Converse Japan products cannot be officially exported overseas and can only be purchased locally in Japan or via international proxy shopping.

02. The 1976 Founding of BEAMS & 70s Converse



What makes this collaboration so special is that it meticulously recreates the Converse 'ALL STAR' details from 1976—the exact year BEAMS took its first steps in a modest 20-square-meter shop in Harajuku.





Instead of the overwhelming glossiness typical of brand-new shoes, they adopted a 'Faded Black' colorway. Through a wash process, it features a beautifully desaturated tone, giving off a natural charm as if you just pulled out a pair of vintage sneakers that have naturally aged over several years.







It incorporates distinct 70s archival details absent in current inline models: the signature Side Stitching, Ankle Patch Notch Detail, and thick, clean 100% Cotton Shoelaces.

While standard Converse Japan models feature 'MADE IN JAPAN' on the heel label, this collaboration model sports an impressive special lettering: 'MADE FOR BEAMS'.

The collection comes in two distinct silhouettes: the ankle-high HI (High) and the OX (Low), which is perfect for comfortable daily wear.
