When this classic canvas was combined with the raw punk aesthetic and signature motifs of 'Vivienne Westwood', the godmother of British punk fashion, it immediately drew intense interest from street culture enthusiasts and heritage archivists worldwide.

Almost everyone has owned at least one pair of Vans in their life. When thinking of Vans, three classic silhouettes immediately come to mind: Old Skool, Authentic, and Slip-On.

While I already owned the Old Skool and Authentic, I always wanted to add a Checkerboard Slip-On to my lineup. Luckily, I stumbled upon a brand-new, unworn pair of this Vivienne Westwood collaboration in my exact size on a secondary marketplace and picked it up immediately.







Compared to the standard, tighter checkerboard grid, this collaboration features a wider, slightly angled pattern overlaid with Vivienne Westwood's iconic ORB emblem and red lettering that spells out her famous slogan, 'DESTROY'.

Furthermore, the foxing tape along the outsole is pre-distressed with a subtle, aged patina right out of the box, perfectly enhancing the raw punk vibe characteristic of Vivienne Westwood.





02. Sizing & Comfort

I typically wear a 250–255mm. Given my flat feet and slightly wider foot shape, I opted for 255mm (US 7.5), which resulted in a delightfully comfortable "just-right" fit with zero slipping or uncomfortable pressure.

Initially, the side elastic goring exerts a firm hold over the instep. However, thanks to the natural flexibility of the canvas upper and elastic bands, the shoe gently stretches and molds to your foot shape over time.

Unless you have extremely wide feet, I highly recommend staying True to Size to Half Size Up to preserve both the sleek silhouette and proper heel containment of a classic slip-on.





Inside, the insoles feature crisp co-branded logos, providing a satisfying detail even when taking the shoes off.

While not equipped with high-tech cushioning like Vans' Comfycush line, the standard insoles offer adequate daily comfort. The elastic goring holds the midfoot securely, eliminating heel slip and ensuring a smooth, stable walking experience.





03. On-Feet

The greatest strength of the Checkerboard pattern is its ability to serve as a distinct focal point under any trouser hem.

As someone who loves pairing Vans with denim, this pair exceeded my expectations. The added graphic details give it more visual pop than a standard checkerboard, instantly injecting a street-ready, expressive energy into any outfit.









It looks fantastic whether you roll up light-wash denim to reveal the entire pattern, or let wide-leg trousers drape naturally over the instep.
